The Transport Planning Unit (TPU) was established through a Grant from the World Bank in 1999. The Fiji National Transport Sector Plan
(FNTSP) mooted the idea in 1993.
The core function of the Unit is to identify new areas of transport concerns. Apart from the provision of policy advice to address those concerns, TPU also provides strategic policy advice to Government to better coordinate transport planning. The monitoring of policy advice based on the broad policy framework outlined in the Fiji National Transport Sector Plan (FNTSP) ensures conformity with new infrastructure developments.
The shift in Government’s overall transport outlook,
from a service focused to policy directives for the enhancement of our transportation system, complemented TPU’s vision on the three (3) modes of
transport, being Land, Sea and Aviation. |
